Tony Lawson has had interest in consumer participation for many years. Tony has been involved in consumer participation as a member of consumer organisations, facilitated consumer organisations and has been involved in consumer participation projects in the health arena. Tony also has had experience in managing small and large not for profit organisations and has a sound understanding of governance issues.
As a consumer advocate as well as in his professional consultancy business, Tony has been involved in a number of consumer participation and engagement projects including for DoHA (with UniSA) an evaluation of the Consumer Impact of After-Hours Primary Medical Care; for Pharmacy Guild (with UniSA) a review of Consumer Needs and Expectations of Community Pharmacy, and through Baker IDI Diabetes and Heart Research Institute the following projects;
- Review of Diabetes Coordinated Care Pilot Program and how the program will impact on consumer access, improved coordination and overall improved outcomes for consumers.
- Setting minimum standards of care for Indigenous people with cardiovascular disease focussing on the patient journey.
I have also had experience in managing small and large not for profit organisations and have a sound understanding of governance issues to the extent that I provide governance advice and training to Boards.

- Facilitator / Chairperson, Consumer Council – Flinders Medical Centre (2006-2008)
- I have recently been appointed as the consumer representative of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network Governing Advisory Council. This Council has responsibility for the management of major health services including the Royal Adelaide and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals.
- I am also a member of the SA Health Ethics Health Advisory Council.
- I am currently serving as a Board Member of Consumers Health Forum of Australia Ltd (CHF), a member of the CHF Governance Committee and Chair, CHF Membership Committee.
- I represent CHF as a member of the Health Workforce Australia (HWA) Governance Committee oversighting the preparation of the National Health Workforce Training Plan.
- I represent CHF as a member of the Health Workforce Australia (HWA) as a member of the Standing Committee on NGO and Private Sector which has the role of providing advice on key health workforce issues and programs for the NGO and Private Sector.
