We have an small, but energetic and committed team at HCA who work to support our members and Consumer Advocates and ensure that there is a strong consumer voice in the planning, delivery, review and monitoring of health services in South Australia.
Stephanie Miller
Executive Director
Stephanie joined HCA as Executive Director in April 2009. Prior to joining HCA, Stephanie lived in the UK for 15 years where she held senior executive roles with consumer focussed not for profit and public sector organisations. She has a Degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide. While in the UK, Stephanie gained a Masters Degree in Management and Social Responsibility from Bristol University. Stephanie is a trained IAP2 practitioner and has recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Dialogue, Deliberation and Public Engagement with Fielding Graduate University in the United States. Stephanie was born and raised in country South Australia and has lived in several Australian cities.Stephanie is Presiding Member of the Health & Community Services Complaints Advisory Council; a Member of the SA Council for Safety & Quality in Health Care; and a member of the Population Health Research Network Management Council.
Michael Cousins
Senior Project Officer (Policy and Advocacy)
Michael has 20 years of experience in government and non-government agencies holding positions ranging from Project Manager through to Chief Executive Officer. He has experience in policy analysis, consumer advocacy, community engagement, project management and strategic planning. His most recent role was project managing the strategic planning process for Relationships Australia (SA). He has worked as a Policy Officer in government and as an Education Officer at the AIDS Council of SA and the Victorian AIDS Council. Michael has a Graduate Diploma in Public Health.
Michael is excited to be returning to work in the health sector in South Australia, particularly during this time of reform and opportunity for health consumers.
Duncan Bainbridge
Community Relations Officer
Duncan comes to HCA with a background in Communications, PR and Community Engagement. He has over 20 years’ experience of providing PR and Communications solutions to the private and public sectors.
During that time he has worked for internationally known architects from Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom as well as engineers, building conservation specialists, heritage peak bodies and most recently in local government with the City of Unley. He believes that there is no substitute for discussion and debate about the issues that will inform design, health and welfare and community wellbeing — as this is an essential part of the consultative process. Duncan is a trained IAP2 practitioner and has also been involved, as a volunteer, in a range of community organisations, most recently with the Unley Museum.
Previously Duncan was employed by HCA as a Communications and Office Manager and is now quickly getting familiar with the current work and future plans of HCA and as the Community Relations Officer looks forward to meeting and working with you.
Sarah Sangau
Administration Assistant
Sarah joined HCA as an Administration Assistant after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Justice and Society majoring in Legal and criminal Justice and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Law at Flinders University.
Sarah has previously worked for the African Communities Council Of SA Inc., Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement Inc., she has extensive knowledge in community representation and engagement and is looking forward to developing her skills in Policy work which is line with her professional career.
