Consumers at the centre of health
in South Australia

HCA hosted a forum on Power Dependency on Wednesday 15 November 2017. The forum had two key objectives, to review the proposed Power Dependency Strategy and associated messaging to inform the development of a Communications Plan, and support processes for potentially vulnerable people and their carers/families; and to identify what consumers should do to prepare for and manage an outage. HCA is recruiting a Consumer Engagement Project Officer

HCA is seeking a talented Consumer Engagement Project Officer to work on a project with Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) to develop a Consumer Engagement Strategy. This role is based at HCA’s offices in the Adelaide CBD, but will also spend time working from NALHN locations in Salisbury, Elizabeth and Modbury. This is a 0.8 FTE contract through to 31 December 2018. You can find out more here.

Launch of a new resource for South Australians struggling with alcohol and other drugs

A new website has been launched by the Community Partnership Program to assist people to access alcohol and other drug treatment services. Knowyouroptions.sa.gov.au provides individuals, families and health professionals with information about alcohol and other drug treatment options and support services that are available in South Australia. The site will assist people who are struggling, or caring for someone who is struggling with alcohol and other drugs to find necessary information about treatment services, and how to access them. Improving stroke services for country South Australians

Country Health SA has developed a new Acute Stroke Model of Care to provide improved care for country stroke patients. This includes extending the hours of access to specialised treatment at the three country stroke services, located at Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service, Whyalla Hospital and Health Service, and Riverland General Hospital (Berri). During 2018, Country Health SA will implement the full Acute Stroke Model of Care. You can find out more below.

World Cancer Day: Community walk

The Flinders centre for innovation in cancer is hosting a community walk to raise awareness about World Cancer Day. You can stroll or brisk walk around the Flinders University lake, through the pine forest and down to Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer. There will be a light breakfast to follow. Netfest 2018

Netfest is South Australia's largest professional development and networking event for non-government youth sector workers. The day-long event brings together over a hundred dedicated youth sector workers, stakeholders and supporters from across the state to discuss ideas, projects and inspire best practice. Introduction to Consumer Advocacy Training

Are you thinking about becoming a consumer advocate or would you like to refresh your knowledge?

Our Introduction to Consumer Advocacy Training session will give you information on the role, challenges and benefits of being a consumer advocate.

The sessions are interactive and based on adult-learning principles. Participants receive reference materials and a certificate of attendance.
