Research into the need for an Individual Advocacy Service

HCA is seeking input from health consumers and professionals across South Australia about establishing an individual advocacy service. To gather your input you can complete one of two surveys. The first survey will provide us with short overview of your opinion on whether an individual advocacy program would be helpful for South Australian health consumers. The second survey will provide a more in-depth overview of your opinion on whether an individual advocacy program would be helpful for South Australian health consumers.

You can find out more about the project below.

You can take the short (5 minute) survey here.

SA Ambulance Service Community Advisory Committee

On Thursday 3 May 2018, Kathy Mickan, HCA’s Manager for Consumer Engagement, attended the SA Ambulance Service Community Advisory Committee (SAAS CAC). The meeting was held at the new Medstar facility where Kathy had an opportunity to take a tour and learn more about their service. The service employs a range of doctors, nurses, paramedics and pilots, and treats and transports patients from across SA including babies weighing as little as 700 grams. They have a team that specialises in babies, children and young people, and a team that specialises in search and rescue. The membership of the SAAS CAC includes representatives from the Aboriginal, culturally and linguistically diverse, disability and ageing sectors. It was great to observe discussions on their ideas to improve accessibility. You can find out more about Medstar here.

My Health Record

The Framework to guide the secondary use of My Health Record system data was released last week. It contains information about how consumer information may be used in research, planning and service delivery. Importantly health insurers and commercial applications have been denied access. Consumers will be able to control how their information is used. You can access the Framework to guide the secondary use of My Health Record system data here.

The Australian Digital Health Agency has announced that Consumers can opt out of My Health Record from 16 July 2018 until 15 October 2018. A month after that, every Australian who has not opted out will have a record created for them. This is an important decision for consumers who need to carefully consider the benefits of having a digital health record. We are working to provide up-to-date consumer information on our website and will provide the page link in our eNews once it is available. You can find out more about My Health Record here.
